In 2015, Jon de la Cruz launched his eponymous design studio following 20 years working for top Bay Area firms including Steven Volpe, BaMO, and Ken Fulk Inc, where as Design Director he successfully led such projects as The Battery SF, Carbone Las Vegas and Leo’s Oyster Bar. With a passion for food formed during a childhood spent watching PBS cooking shows, Jon has a chef’s perspective that serves him well for both residential and hospitality projects. In addition to his timeless yet modern residential projects, Jon has several restaurant clients including San Francisco’s Che Fica, the forthcoming Protégé in Palo Alto and Chef Peter Merriman’s Honolulu outpost.
Where do you live and why do you love it?
Jack London Square in Oakland. Fifteen minutes to Downtown SF and plenty of parking. Has the same sort of vibe that the Dogpatch used to have ten years ago.
Peerless Coffee for NITRO iced coffee. Bicycle Coffee for Free Coffee Fridays.
Favorite spot for a cocktail?
Nido for the Cervezarita. A double margarita with a mini-Corona flipped into it.
Date night destination?
Hopscotch. Fried Chicken plus a pint of beer and a shot of scotch. I like that kind of math.
Buzziest new restaurant?
Delage in Swan’s Market – Amazing omakase in a very laid back setting.
Favorite find in the neighborhood?
The Oakland Supply Company is a fantastic concept store that specializes in jewelry and leather goods from local suppliers and craftsmen. An excellent place to find not so usual gifts.
