Part Three: Rules Are Made To Be Broken
Here we go again! The third ‘design rule’ I decree eminently breakable (and this time I’m going in for the kill)…all your wood and metal finishes must match. Let’s take a match to that old mandate! Using a variety of finishes throughout the house adds a sense of warmth and texture to any space. Decorating with deliciously different materials can bounce the eye around a room, playing with light and dark, shine and matte, creating a space that feels layered and conceived over time. I have found this technique can be applied in traditional, modern, and transitional interiors – here are a collection of images to inspire you to bust the rules!
