One of my favorite ways to add character to a room is by using a vintage piece of metal furniture. Surprising with a piece used differently than originally intended, and highlighting its patina, can add warmth and interest to a traditional or modern interior. Most of these finds were created and finished to stand up to many years of wear and tear. I love to embrace the irregular wear patterns – and help to halt their continued deterioration – by applying a clear coat of wax periodically. Some industrial pieces are stunning when completely stripped of the original finish to allow their metallic magic to shine. Strippers and steel wool are terrific tools to achieve this result. Here are a few inspirational images and interiors showing vintage metal at its best !
