Jaq Chartier Painting from the Testing Series … Artist Jaq Chartier is known for her rigorous “Testing” series, a continuing experimentation with paint and process that utilizes scientific methods. Chartier has developed her own custom formulas of deeply saturated inks, stains and dyes. These materials interact on a microscopic level causing the colors to alter in intensity. Sometimes writing notes directly on the side of the paintings, Chartier tracks the reactions of the stains with the paint in each test. These notes are one of the physical manifestations that reflect the similarities between the scientific and artistic analyses that the artist engages.
Chartier received her BFA from the University of Massachusetts and her MFA at the University of Washington. She has exhibited nationwide. Her works are included in many public and private collections, including those of the Schwartz Art Collection at the Harvard Business School, The Progressive Art Collection in Cleveland, OH, and the Tacoma Art Museum. She is currently represented in San Francisco by Dolby Chadwick Gallery.
