“Mind Breeze 2″ painting by famed English artist Jonathan Myles-Lea. Acrylic on canvas; signed by artist; framed. (47″ X 47″ X 2”)
After graduating with a degree in the History of Art & Architecture from the University of London in 1989, Jonathan Myles-Lea befriended the Anglo/Irish painter Francis Bacon. Bacon took Myles-Lea under his wing and the two spent much time together both in Bacon’s studio and in London’s notorious club, The Colony Room. Bacon declared Myles-Lea a true artist and insisted he pursue a career as a painter. Up until his death he imparted invaluable advice upon Myles-Lea about navigating the perils of the art world. After leaving London in 1991 for the countryside, Myles-Lea embarked on a 25-year career in which he was commissioned to paint bird’s-eye-view portraits of country houses, estates and formal gardens in oils throughout The United Kingdom, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and The United States. His clients have included Prince Charles, Princess Salimah Aga Khan, The Lauder Family, The Oppenheimer Family, and Oprah Winfrey to name only a few. In 2013, Myles-Lea made the bold decision to move to California and begin working in a much looser style. Inspired by a similar move from the North of England to Southern California by David Hockney in the 1960s, he felt the time was right to move away from the extremely meticulous painting style he had known his entire career and explore a more personal style that allowed him to play around with brighter light and more diverse scenery.
