“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco” – though some debate this memorable line is actually attributable to Mark Twain, there is no debating the truth of the statement. San Francisco’s climate is dependably changeable, but for this East Coast boy the foggy mornings and cool temperatures of June and July are no substitute for summer on Cape Cod or along the coast of Maine.
Each year I head back East for four glorious summer weeks, and every visit mull over the idea of purchasing a small cottage near the Atlantic. I’ve saved hundreds of ideas, plans and inspiration for this dream on Pinterest – and though there isn’t a charming seaside purchase in my near future (I’m getting married this summer, so my budget has been blown on flowers, caterers, rings and tuxedos!), I can still dream.

I found a wonderful plan for a quintessential summer cottage, and have indulged my dream by furnishing the fantasy house with Previously Owned by a Gay Man finds.

My team and I decorated a living room, dining room, screened porch and two bedrooms with a fun mix of vintage and industrial pieces – some previously owned, some brand new, and all currently available on the site … shop soon, fantasies tend to sell quickly. We’ve mixed modern with traditional to achieve a stylish and livable getaway, with instant gratification (and no down payment!).
Take a look at our mood board, and the Previously Owned by a Gay Man pieces we chose – hope you find some inspiration in my dream. Now, let’s go to the beach!
